I know a lot of breeds have a miniature, toy, etc. How do they downsize a dog like that? I don’t really get how you would do that unless you somehow went in and altered the genes. Is that what they did? How come all dogs don’t have the ability to come in miniature or a different size? There is only a select few that do.
I have always wanted a golden retreiver because I love the breed and their personality and such. But I prefer small dogs and if they made a miniature golden retreiver I think I would go insane! Anyone know why the can’t do this with this breed and many others?
I think miniatures of dogs are absolutely adorable by the way! I have a Miniature American… Continue reading this item... | 4 Comments

Those who plan ahead and develop contingencies for such emergency situations generally fare better than those who do not. Professionals in the emergency disaster relief field promote emergency evacuation plans for people, because they work.
But what about an emergency plan for our pets? They are family members too. Shouldn’t our plans for emergency evacuation include them as well? Thousands of trusting, devoted pets are lost each year due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods and fires, simply because their people did not have an emergency plan that included them.

I am always traveling for work and usually out of the house for at least 2 days every week. However, I would really like a pet and heard that cats can do well in this type of environment and as long as their given adequate water and food they’ll be ok if left alone. Is this true? And would it be better for me to get a kitten so they can adapt to this kind of schedule from an early age or a older cat?
In response to Tara and future “answerers”…This is a QUESTION as to whether or not I should bring a cat into my life. Please do not barrage me with strong and tacky responses aimed at making me feel bad for even thinking about this choice. Thanks… Continue reading this item... | 10 Comments

Regularly grooming your dog not only has the added benefit of making him look and smell good; grooming your dog on a regular basis also gives you the opportunity of deepening the bond you have with your pet and for checking his general health.
If you have a puppy, take the time now to help him become accustomed to being groomed. You can do this by simply spending time with your puppy and gently his entire body; examine his tail, paws, ears, and teeth etc. Talk to your puppy in a gentle and positive tone, and have some food treats with you, so as you can reward your puppy for his positive behaviour. If you have an adult dog who is not totally happy with the grooming experience, then… Continue reading this item...
