A recent survey estimated that the average dog owner will visit the vet two-three times a year and spend an average of two hundred dollars. Pet owners who have cats will spend a little bit less. That estimate is for the normal routine stuff like sterilization (spaying or neutering), vaccinations, worming, and a heartworm test; you’re normally in and out of the veterinarian’s office in approximately fifteen minutes. www.hdb.gov.sg At the above web site HDB allows flat owners to keep other pet animals such as fish, hamsters, rabbits, birds, etc which generally do not cause nuisance to the neighbouring residents. It would be good if HDB analyzed this policy more closely with respect to keeping of birds. In densely populated Singapore keeping of noisy pet birds should be controlled more rigidly. Folks keep birds for the music they produce. These birds make non stop noise throughout the day. There are innumerable complaints to HDB on the unbearable noise nuisance generated by pet birds.
