As readily apparent from its name the Portuguese Water Dog hails from Portugal and for centuries before it was finally superseded by technology it remained the Portuguese fisherman’s consummate all-purpose fishing tool. The exact ancestral origins of the Portuguese Water Dog remain unknown but it is quite closely related to other European water dog breeds save for the fact that they generally specialized in waterfowl retrieval whereas the Portuguese Water Dog’s specialties lay elsewhere. For whatever reason, the neighborhood cats LOVE to poop and pee on our lawn. They also dig it up with their claws when they scratch around. They act just like dogs, and now our front yard stinks, and our lawn has dirt patches and big patches of yellow where the cat urine killed the grass. My fiance got a cat a few months ago but he has to get give her away now. He’s crushed, and there’s no way he’s going to give her away to a shelter that could euthanize her. Does anyone know of a good, no kill shelter for cats? He wanted to find her a home where he knew the people but so far no one can take her.
