Student-founded Give A Paw of Virginia Raises $ 825 for Abandoned Pets

Warrenton, VA (PRWEB) December 6, 2010

While in their sophomore year, two Highland School students raised $ 825 for the Fauquier SPCA through a charity they founded to help feed the abandoned and stray animals extending their time.. Their early success has led them to launch a similar fund raising program as Juniors, and they’ve already raised $ 800.

“I have always loved animals, and I wanted to do something concrete to help them, so I started a charity to raise money for our local SPCA,” said Annecy Smith, a current Junior at Warrenton’s Highland School and the co-founder of Give A Paw of Virginia.

Emma Rosse, the other co-founder of Give A Paw, also a Junior at Highland, stated, “We were able to raise twice what we thought we could and we were thrilled to present it to the Fauquier SPCA. We were surprised at the generosity of the community when we told them what we were working on.”

One of the less known tragedies of the increase in the number of pets in shelters is that it frequently becomes a matter of dollars and cents as to how long the shelter can keep the animals for adoption. “We greatly appreciate the efforts and results from these organized and ambitious young women,” said Judith Hagerman, the Executive Director of the Fauquier SPCA. “It is wonderful to see people using their talents for such a good cause. The money Give A Paw of Virginia raised for us will be put to excellent use. While they can’t express it verbally, our dogs and cats are really thankful.”
