What shelters euthanize cats for space or other reasons?
Question by Annie: What shelters euthanize cats for space or other reasons?
I am moving into an apartment in a few months and I am allowed to have cats. I have been interested in adopting but would like to adopt from a “kill shelter,” one that euthanizes animals for space. I am in Massachusetts and we have mostly humane societies around. I know they do euthanize, but not for space and are not considered “kill shelters.” Where could I find a shelter that is a “kill shelter?”

Call your local Humane Society and ask.
Or call your city/town and ask to speak to someone in the Animal Control department.
They should have this information for you

Call your local humane society. They’ll be happy to tell you.
Also, Type your city’s name+kill shelter in the Google bar and google it. You should see lots of entries.
Often the city animal control facility kills for space. so you might want to check there. Or just go on Petfinder and search for shelters in your area and then call and ask someone where you could adopt you would be saving their life.
And if you adopt an adult cat it’s even more likely you are saving their life. especially if they are over 5 yrs old or so. We adopted an 11 yr old cat from a “kill shelter” who was due to be killed the next day. What a sweet, loving cat he was and he lived 7 more years.
