Question by : Cannot get my cat to use Yesterday’s News liter, what should I do?
She just got declawed and the vet said to use Yesterday’s News but she is going to the bathroom in other spots rather than the liter box. I keep showing her where it is, it’s out in the open so she can find it but she still does not want to use it. Is there anything that will work better? How is shredded paper vs. Yesterday’s News, do cats like that more?

well, from the sounds of it, she is being buried in litter! i dont think the type really matters. i mean, a liter is a lot of litter! it should only go up about an inch in the litter box. try half a liter, and if she still wont go, cut it down to a quarter liter.

Cats don’t like changes to their litter, and she may or may not use it. And after being declawed, 30% of cats develop at least one behavioral change, including biting, aggression, and – you guessed it – refusal to use the litter box. Since their mutilated paws are so painful (for ever after, not just after they “heal”) they refuse to use the litter box and seen somewhere else to go. Good job, you’ve caused her pain and her going out of the box, now you just have to hope that after her paws “heal” she’ll use the box again. Try puppy training pads or shredded newspaper. Also get more pain drugs from the vet.
How would you like to dig and walk on toes that had the first joint amputated? You’d be in tremendous pain – so is she.
